Beauty Essentials of a Minimalist 40-Year-Old During a Pandemic

Okay, to be honest, I’m still 39 years old, but I’ll be 40 next month just to be clear. For this article, I just wanted to share with you what I have right now to maintain a decent look at home. I work at home even before the pandemic began so I'm pretty much a minimalist from the start when it comes to beauty products.

Why do I even have beauty essentials even if I’m working at home? I personally think it’s for my mental health. I wanted to look pretty or decent enough in front of my husband  and kids as well as look good in front of the mirror. According to an article from The Guardian, most women still wear make-up every day even during a lockdown to make them feel human.

Here are my daily 5 minimalist beauty essentials :

1. Cetaphil Pro AD Derma Skin Restoring Wash for Face and Body. This is what I now use for my face and body. This was actually given to me so I had no idea about its actual price. When I searched for it, it costs around $15. No complains whatsoever because I get soft skin and I don’t get any pimple breakouts while using it.

2. Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. Yes, at my age, I still get dandruff especially when I use those cheap anti-dandruff shampoos. To be honest, my dandruff stops when I use Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo. One sachet costs a dollar so I only buy sachets when I have the budget. Plus, I don’t use it every day because I think it might be too harsh on my scalp if I use it daily so I just use it twice a week.

3. Sephora Lip Stories Lip Balm. I still like lipsticks, but at home, I mostly use colored lip balms to prevent having dry lips. I also don’t like too much color on my lips nowadays and lip balms feels lighter so I prefer using them.

4. Baby Cologne

Baby Cologne

Haha! Yes, you read it right. I use baby colognes nowadays. I mean why would I need perfumes if I’m always inside the house? Plus, my youngest daughter loves the scent, too, so I just use baby colognes on me. I still have perfumes left that I used to use before the pandemic. I just plan on using them on special occasions like Valentine’s Day or on my hubby’s birthday.

5. Hand lotions. Right now, I have 2 hand lotions; one from Sephora (almond scent) and one from China (Gardenia scent). Never appreciated the purpose of hand lotions before, but now I do. After taking a bath, I would use them or when my hands are tired, I liked putting lotion on my hands and give them a quick massage at the same time. They smell good, too, and helps me feel more relaxed.

Basically, that’s all I often use nowadays. I don’t use foundations, eye liners, eye shadows, or even moisturizers because we live in a hot climate so moisturizers are not really recommended. I am also fond of using organic products because of their effectiveness against rashes or harmful reactions. I love the ones from Amanda Jo, Organic Bunny and Human Nature because not only they provide good quality products, but they also promote taking care of the Earth.

That’s all for now. Any comments/reactions? Share them in the comments below.  Thanks for reading!
