Prior to this, I was actually going to write a
completely different introduction to my blog post, but I deleted it and decided to post what I’m actually
thinking right now. An hour ago, I felt this excruciating pain on my chest and
back. I had a hard time breathing and I felt like vomiting. I tried to sit on a
chair or lie down the bed, but neither gave me any comfort. The pain lasted
for almost 10 minutes and then thankfully it disappeared gradually as I did some short
walks.
During those 10 minutes, all these thoughts came up such as,
“Oh, no! Do I need to go to the hospital? Sayang ang gastos!” ”Magpapasko pa
naman! Ayoko magkasakit!” “My children needs me!” It was really an eye-opener.
All your plans, all your money, everything that you worked for would be worth
nothing if you’re sick or feeling pained. Christmas season or not, it’s really
important that we should stay healthy and strong so that we can make more happy
memories and enjoy our life with our family.
Holiday stress is really nothing compared to serious illnesses because stress can be dealt
with or it can be prevented. So for you maximize your Christmas, here are my 5 simple tips to stay healthy and strong to fight stress, boost your immunity, and enjoy the holidays:
- Walk (with friends, family or with music). If the store or the mall you're going to is just walking-distance from you, then walk instead of taking a car. Walking has lots of benefits including improvement of blood circulation, aids
in digestion, lightens your mood, improves sleep, and more. Although walking is a bit tiresome for most people, walking with friends will make your walks more enjoyable as you chat with each other while you walk. if you don't have anyone with you, then listen to your favorite music from your mobile phone as you walk. It's a good exercise and helps get rid of holiday stress.
- Take naps. This is probably one of the most important
things a person can do for his body, but often neglected. Try to take short
naps whenever you can be it in te office or at home because it can reduces fatigue, increase alertness,
improves mood, improve performance , and
most importantly, it relaxes you making you more focused in decision-making.
- Maintain healthy
habits. Just because Christmas is near
doesn’t mean you’re going to abandon your healthy snacks and your
8-glasses-of-water-a- day routine. Simply maintain your healthy habits for mind
and body wellness that helps fight off stress.

I dare you to try chilled pineapples in the afternoon! They're refreshingly good. |
- Stretch. Do some simple stretches at
home or even at the office. As we age, our muscles
tighten and range of motion in the joints can be minimized. Stretching
regularly can reduce muscle tension, enhance muscular coordination, and increase
energy levels thus, making daily
activities easier . You can simply use Google and type in “simple stretches”
and look for a stretching routine that fits for you.
- Take your Vitamin C. Listen to your mother and don’t forget to take your vitamins especially your
Vitamin C to boost your immune system and protect you from sickness. It is also a powerful antioxidant which can fight the harmful effects of air pollution and stress perfect for those who commute daily. So always remember to take FERN-C daily for added immunity.

Sodium Ascorbate versus Ascorbic acid
One of the best advantages of Sodium Ascorbate (generic name
of Fern-C) is that this vitamin does not cause stomach upsets and that just
made all the difference and my sole reason why I prefer it over Ascorbic Acid. Although
both vitamins give the same benefits of Vitamin C to the body, Ascorbic Acid
has been known to cause gastric ulceration in susceptible individuals
(including our family).
Another advantage of Sodium Ascorbate to consider is that it
stays longer within the body (About 12 to 14 hours) which can be beneficial for
its antioxidant value. Since Ascorbic Acid is indeed acidic in nature
(duh), more of it is flushed down from
the body. Only 25% of ascorbic acid is consumed by the blood stream unlike sodium
ascorbate which can be absorbed for about 95 percent.
Now, anything that’s consumed too much is harmful and same
goes with Sodium Ascorbate. Diarrhea or kidney stones can be caused by an
overdose of this vitamin , so always do keep everything in moderation
especially vitamin intake.
Sodium Ascorbate should also be taken with caution for
hypertensive people for it contains sodium, but as long as the sodium consumed
by the body is monitored and if sodium in sodium ascorbate does not add up to
the other sources of sodium like in food (salt) or in other medications, sodium
ascorbate may still be beneficial even for hypertensive people.
So which one is better? I believe the one with the more
benefits stands out and that is Sodium Ascorbate – it’s safe for our tummies, stays
longer in our body for longer immunity, and its availability. Hands down to that.
So there you have it, folks. That's my list for boosting immunity during the holidays. For more information about Fern-C, you may visit their
