I have to admit, even in my 40s, we still don’t own our own home. The simple truth? We couldn’t afford it, especially nowadays when inflation has really hit everyone. But recently, we realized that the time has come to make it happen.
So, I’ve been researching homes in both nearby areas and provinces that fit our budget. To my surprise, I discovered something exciting—many modern homes are now solar-ready. It’s reassuring to see real estate developers addressing one of the biggest concerns for homeowners: the rising cost of electricity.

This feature has sparked a sense of hope and possibility, knowing that we can find a home that not only fits our budget but also helps us sustainably manage future expenses.
At this point, I’m still unsure about the kind of home we want. There are beautiful houses near the mountains, but they aren’t solar-ready. Then there are homes in cooler climates, but they’re far from essential amenities like grocery stores and schools. The number of factors to consider is both frustrating and overwhelming.
Will the kids be all right?
Another big concern is whether my kids, who grew up in the city, would adjust to life in a more rural setting. Provincial homes are undeniably more affordable, but the lifestyle shift is something we really have to think about.
Balancing location, convenience, sustainability, and family needs is proving to be more challenging than I expected. But I’m hopeful that with some time and patience, we’ll find a place that feels just right for us.
