3 Cool Landscaping Ideas for Your New Property

Fairy Garden

Our yards offer a chance to make the outside of our homes as personal and unique as we work to make the insides feel.  Although the work outside is more hands-on, the opportunities are constantly changing.  From season to season and climate to climate, there are endless ways to reinvent your property.

Here are some of the top options!

Make Your Own Fairy Garden

Since the beginning of 2020, fairy gardens have been a trendy style of yard decor.  These gardens and lawns are laid out to be as whimsical as possible while still being hardy enough to last in most weather.  You can recreate this with small stone pathways, bridges over gutters and low parts of your yard, and plants that bloom in pastel colors.

On your home itself, including fairy lights that light up on a timer, or solar lights that glow when the sun sets, can add even more of a magical touch.  These yards are fun because while hunting for real estate for sale in Whistler, you get the chance to build your fantasy worlds in your mind.

Create a Rain Garden

A large part of gardening and lawn maintenance lately is creating a garden that can both be beautiful and great for the environment and your property.  Rain gardens are laid out in a way that allows water to reach as much plant life as possible while being led off of your property or into a water collection system.

Because of their root structure and the amount of water needed to thrive, some plants do far better in a rain garden.  Flowers like black-eyed Susans, swamp milkweed, and cardinal flowers help stop the rain from flooding your property while absorbing as much into the soil as possible.

One route people take is to create a low brick or stone channel to guide the water from one side of the property to the other.  When it rains, this channel can become an attractive water feature that looks like a small river.  When going this route, you must find materials that match your home.

Add Texture and Patterns In Everything

Although it might seem complicated to plan out your entire yard and garden from scratch, it's not as hard as it looks!  If you want to do a complete overhaul, there are a few points you should focus most of your energy on.  Starting small, if you mow your lawn into patterns like a diagonal stripe or a large box pattern, your property will already begin to stand out.

From here, consider patterning your flower beds and the design you lay them out in.  This might mean that you create stripes of rows of flowers or arrange your shrubs so that when they flower, it makes an alternating pattern.  You must take into consideration what the color and texture of the outside of your home are.  If you have a light green home, don't go for a lot of orange flowers.  You can use art sites to look for pleasing color palettes to try!
