I Just Celebrated My Birthday with Conti's Pistachio Cake, S&R Pizza, and Amber's Spaghetti

I just celebrated my birthday, and it just felt like any other day. I guess that's normal when you're a mom, plus I'm already at my 40s, so I'm not too excited.  I didn't plan anything, well, that's probably because I don't have the budget to plan anything. Why no budget? I got laid off from work just early this month. *sigh* I guess that's another reason why my head is not in the planning mode because I'm searching for work.

But anyway, the blog post is not about that. I'm writing this to share about the blessings I received today thanks to my family. My sister bought me food like a Pistachio cake from Conti's, spaghetti and pichi-pichi from Amber's, and chicken with pizza from SN'R.

Conti's Pistachio Crunch Cake

For starters, I wanted to post a cake review of Conti's new Pistachio Crunch cake. We've always been curious about Contis' new Pistachio cake that was inspired by the trending knaffeh chocolate from Dubai. For the price of around Php 1,300+, we were expecting the cake to be a regular-sized, 9-inch cake. But we were surprised that it was small, like around 6 inches.

Here are some pics:

The cake was surprisingly small for its price. My hand was much bigger than the cake.

Pistachio Cake description according to Conti's website: A lava cake with layers of chocolate sponge, smooth chocolate and pistachio mousse, a crunchy kataifi layer, elegantly finished with pistachio sauce and edible dried roses.

Size: 3 stars out of 5.

To be blunt, everyone was disappointed when the cake arrived because of its size. I can't blame them because it really was small. But I can't really complain because it was a gift and we did request for this particular cake to try.

Taste: 3 stars out of 5

Regardless of the size of the cake, it all boils down to the taste. So we gave it a go and gave a slice to my mom, sister, and me. I had a hard time slicing it using a bread knife because it was pretty hard in the middle, so do use a sharper knife.

Okay, so the taste? It actually tasted quite rich and very sweet to our taste buds. I added the pistachio sauce on top, but it didn't do anything, actually. It just looked more beautiful and Instagrammable. Don't get me wrong. It was delicious, thanks to the layers of chocolate and pistachio, but bite after bite, I could feel the sweetness irritating my throat. I was able to finish my 1 liter of water thanks to it.

Each bite was really filling. So when I finished my cake slice, my stomach was so full and I couldn't eat any more. Maybe next time, I'll get a thinner slice - if there is a next time.

Here's another pic of its slice:

I did mention that I had a hard time slicing it, right?

S&R Pizza and Amber's Spaghetti

We ordered one 18"Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza and 18" Combo Whole Pizza from S&R via Grab delivery.

We've always liked S&R pizza because we think it's worth the price because of its big size, good quality, and good taste. You can never go wrong with S&R.

As for Amber's spaghetti, we ordered one bilao of spaghetti with meat sauce. We've always liked its Filipino style spaghetti - sweet, cheesy, and a bit creamy. It's very popular in office potlucks and office celebrations because it's always freshly made and they make it fast. They can get your order delivered to you within the hour.

Rate: 5 out of 5 for both

Apparently, my siblings got to the pizza first before I could take a picture.

I didn't blow out any candles, and that's okay. I also didn't feel like it. It was just a simple day, but it became extraordinary because of good food thanks to my family. These days are among my difficult days due to unemployment, but thanks to family,  I think I can survive a little bit longer.
