Moving to a New Place? Here's Everything You Need to Check First

Selling our family home and moving into a rental apartment has been a learning experience for our family. We're renting for a few months while my kids finish the school year, and after that, we hope to find our forever home somewhere in the province.

Living in a different space, even temporarily, has made me notice details I never paid much attention to before. Some may seem small, but they can have a huge impact on your comfort, convenience, and day-to-day life. If you're planning on buying a house, renting an apartment, or moving to a new place, these are the important things to check before making your decision:

1. Always check if there are exhaust fans in the bathroom.

I didn't notice it before because we used to have an exhaust fan in our bathrooms, but now that we're living in an apartment that has one bathroom without an exhaust, it's really hot. I can't stand being inside for more than 30 minutes. I thought maybe that's a good thing because no one can stay inside for more than 20 minutes, but then again, having an exhaust fan is better because the humid smell sometimes lingers.

2. Check if the sink has enough room for you to use.

no space in sink
Not enough space

This is something I also failed to notice before, but right now, we're living in an apartment where the space is just small when the door is open. When the door is closed, there's space, but since it's hot inside, I want to brush my teeth or wash my hands while the door is open.

3. Strong water supply

Well, thi sis tricky because when we checked the apartment, there was no problem with the water, but once we started living here, Maynilad Water Services started to announce water interruptions these past few weeks, which is really irritating; I had to wake up super early in the morning to wash dishes or do my laundry.

4. Check if there's a phone connection available or if the WIFI connection/network is strong

When we moved here, we realized that there PLDT is the only one available, but we don't want to subscribe to their broadband internet because they have a lock-in period of 3 years, and we might be gone by that time. We're not even sure if the place we're moving into has PLDT coverage. Globe is not available, so thankfully PLDT has a prepaid option so we just subscribed to that and so far so good.

5. If the kitchen sink is found under the stairs, it's going to be a challenge

Yeah, I know it's a mess

Yes, my husband and I had a hard time finding a nice dish rack that can fit on our sink - the ones that can be placed on top of the sink so the newly washed dishes can directly drip onto the sink. But nooo...I can't find a rack that can fit our sink that is located under the staircase, so we opted for a small dish rack at the side instead.

That's all I can share for now. If I come up with other ideas, I'd be sure to let you know. If you have comments, please feel free to write them down below.
