Podcasting For Beginners

Podcasts has been around over the last 5 years and there’s no sign of stopping it. I remember watching one podcast a few years ago and it was about how to introduce your services to clients. I think he was a motivational speaker and he showed me steps on what to do on how to get more clients.  A few years later, I see a lot of people doing the same thing he does so I believe watching podcasts are really a thing now.

What Are Podcasts

To start with the very basic question, what is a podcast anyway? According to podcasthost.com, a podcast is essentially a recorded talk radio series that are on demand. This means that listeners don't need to turn up and tune in live, but can listen any time (and pretty much anywhere) they like. Podcasts tend to be focused on a theme or topic. People can listen to it as long as they have the link to the podcast.

What is the difference between podcasts and live radio interviews?

According to Radio.co,  a large difference between podcasting and live radio is the fact that live radio cannot be edited after it has been broadcast, whereas podcasts are pre-recorded so they can easily be adjusted after recording giving you the advantage of listening to the podcast anytime, anywhere.

What Topics Can a Podcast Cover?

It can actually be anything under the sun. It can be about your favorite show, movie, anime series, your hobbies, opinions about a particular showbiz personality, government conspiracies, and a whole lot more.  But, most importantly, the question you should be asking first is what are your interests that you want to share with others or your future listeners. You have to at least show interest about the topic you are discussing to influence your audience to listen. I believe anything about monetizing online is also a hot topic now since it’s the pandemic and people are looking for ways to earn online at home. You can also invite people who are expert in their field like Dan Lok, a business influencer; your local government official about politics and management, or even a lawyer about legal matters about divorce, prenups, etc.

How Do you Start a Podcast

According to Shopify, here’s a bullet point on how to start a podcast:

  • Come up with a concept (a topic, name, format, and target length for each episode).
  • Design artwork and write a description to “brand” your podcast.
  • Record and edit your audio files (such as MP3s). A microphone is recommended (more on podcast equipment later).
  • Find a place to host your files (such as a file host that specializes in podcasts, like Libsyn or Podbean).
  • Syndicate these audio files into an RSS feed so they can be distributed through Apple Podcasts and downloaded or streamed on any device on-demand.

When Is The Best Time To Listen to Podcasts

If you’re a busy person, you can listen to podcasts during your commute to work or commute to your errands. You can also listen to them as you do house chores like cleaning or doing your laundry. You can also listen to them a few minutes before you go to sleep at night.

So there you have it. Do you want to share something about podcasting? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
