A Mother's Travel Horror Story

Family Travel

A lot has happened because of the COVID-19 pandemic which has significantly affected the world of travel. Countries have closed their runways to foreign and domestic flights in an effort to stop the spread of the disease. But after 2 years, airlines are slowly recovering and building themselves up from their ground employees to their flight team because of the increase of passengers going home or going on their much-deserved vacation.

Vacation Turned Nightmare

While I was canvassing Facebook for some travel ideas, I saw a community group for moms and a certain mom posted her story when they traveled to Boracay, Philippines with her family including her 3-year-old son. It was supposed to be a fun, vacation day for everyone that eventually turned into a nightmare for every mom.

From the airport, the family traveled via van then by a boat, and then another van before arriving at their hotel. When they got to their designated hotel room, they noticed a lot of mosquitoes flying around. They simply opened the windows to let them out.

The next day, the mom noticed a mosquito bite on her son's arm. She got a bit worried but shrugged it off thinking it was a simple bite. They went to the beach and went along with their day to enjoy their vacation. But during the afternoon, her son started to have a fever. The worried mom rushed her son to the nearest hospital to have him checked. The son tested positive for Dengue fever.

The mom was furious and blamed the hotel for the incident because of the mosquitoes flying around when they arrived, but the hotel management denied responsibility and said they never had a complaint before. They also mentioned that the son probably got bitten even before they arrived in Boracay. It was a hopeless case because the mom failed to provide more evidence to prove that the hotel was partly to blame.

Unfortunately, the money that was supposed to be spent for their vacation was spent on the hospital bills and their hotel accommodation turned into a 5-day hospital accommodation, something that no family would want to experience during their vacation time. The son did not have any medical insurance so they paid in cash.

Get Insured If You Plan to Travel

That is why having insurance with travel and medical coverage is an absolute must because you'll never know when you'll desperately need one as you travel especially since the pandemic is not really over. It's really scary when you get sick in a place you're unfamiliar with especially if you're on a strict budget.

When you travel, here are the risks you will commonly face:

  1.  COVID-19 infection or other illnesses like Dengue, Chickenpox, and more.
  2. Lost luggage.
  3. Car accidents.
  4. Robberies
